Relishable outdoor games
(Cont.)
NGoo Gin Hang (Tag)
........Children choose Father Snake and mother Snake. As for
Mother Snake, they usually select the tallest and strongest to protect the other, kown as
Little Snakes who would line up in procession. Father Snake stood facing his spouse,
trying to ask a series of questions written in song so as to trap his own offsprings.
| |
Father
Snake: |
O Mother Snake! |
| |
Mother
Snake: |
Yes? |
| |
Father
Snake: |
From what pond do you drink? |
| |
Mother
Snake: |
From the pond of sorrow (Thai=Soak). |
| |
The
children'll continue: |
Rock and Rock (Thai=Yoak).
(And the whole procession will rock) |
| |
Father
Snake: |
O Mother Snake! |
| |
Mother
Snake: |
Yes? |
| |
Father
Snake: |
From what pond do you drink? |
| |
Mother
Snake: |
From the pond of sand (Thai=Sine). |
| |
The
children'll continue: |
Move on and move on (Thai=Yaai).
(And the whole procession will move on) |

| |
Father
Snake continues: |
O Mother Snake! |
| |
Mother
Snake: |
Yes? |
| |
Father
Snake: |
From what pond do you drink? |
| |
Mother
Snake: |
From the pond of stone (Thai=Hin). |
| |
The
children will go on: |
Fly here and fly there (Thai=Bin).
(The whole procession flips their arms up and down.) |
| |
Mother
Snake ask: |
Do you want to eat head or tail? |
| |
Father
Snake answer: |
I'll eat the whole body. |
| |
........Then Father Snake attempts to catch the children while
Mother Snake tries to protect them. This looks like real snake. If Father Snake can catch
a child split from the line, the little one will be eaten. Sometimes The cruel Father may
ask another question to the hapless child before he devours it, (just to be more amusing)
like this:
| |
Father
Snake: |
You want to be with her or with me? |
| |
Little
Snake: |
With her.
The Father Snake will answer
thus: |
| |
Father
Snake: |
Set adrift on a raft |
This means that it will have to wander for the whole life,
or else perish in the river. But if the Little Snake replies:
| |
Little
Snake: |
With you. |
| |
Father
Snake: |
I'll break your neck and eat. |
Whatever it chooses, the offspring will not make it. |
