Relishable Outdoor games As the child grows up, he needs more
exercise in the open air. These games are
beneficial not only for health but also for the
growth of intellectual faculty. They are
wholesome, since the child would be exposed to
fresh air and sunlight. |
Playing in group
| ........In a household there were a lot of
children, since Thai people tended to live in an
extended family. However, in a nucleus family
there were enough children to play and enjoy the
games together. In the old days, people did not
move out from their family: once married, they
still live around in the neighborhood. Moreover,
the population was relatively small compared to
the vast land. Thus, the children could invent
games and have fun all day long. |

Aai Khae Aai Khong (The Crocodile)
| ........Children loved
this game for it was similar to Wing LaiChab
(Catch and Run). But it was more amusing, as they
could make up an adventurous story. The players
drew two long, parallel lines and made believe
that they were banks of the river, in the middle
of which inhabited a ferocious crocodile played
by a child. Once on the shores, the players were
safe. Yet they had to swim across the river
without being caught by the crocodile. The person
caught or touched by the creature must become the
crocodile himself. And the children on the shores
would chant the following lines to tease it : |

"Aai Khae Aai Khong |
You Prong Mai Sak |
| |
Aai Khae Fun Hak |
Kad Kon Mai Khao |

"The

Has lost its
teeth |
And could not
bite people" |
